Still, manually pulling out the weeds works best if your rock bed is small or
there are just a small number of weeds.
2. Pour Boiling Water (The Cheap Trick)
If
the manual way doesn’t work, you can be resourceful this time and use boiling
water. This method is inexpensive, does not use toxic chemicals, and easy to
do.
Warm water does only little damage to weeds, but if you use newly boiled water, this will kill the weeds, including their seeds. In fact, pouring boiling water onto the weed causes it to become dormant. Thus, they stop growing and destroying your garden.
3. Spray White Vinegar (The Organic Way)
Unfortunately,
some weeds are very stubborn and need more than just pouring boiling water. If
you suspect that the weeds are still growing actively even after pouring
boiling water on the spot a few times, it’s time to use white vinegar.
The
average white vinegar has 5 percent acetic acid, but some variants have 15 to
20 percent concentration. This particular compound can kill weeds, especially
the young ones.

Please
note that the 15 to 20 percent acetic acid concentration in vinegar is usually
priced higher, but this is more reliable as compared to the usual kitchen

If
the three methods mentioned above still do not work, then your last resort is
to use herbicide. We do not actually recommend this one unless you have tried
the manual, boiling water, and white vinegar first.

Using herbicide to kill weeds in your landscape should not
be done carelessly. Here are some safety tips to bear in mind:
Use A Protective Outfit.
This
is a common knowledge actually but still many people take this one for granted.
Always wear glasses, gloves, and long sleeves and long pants.
Avoid
wearing leather clothes or anything with canvas material since these absorb the
sprayed chemicals and expose you to the herbicide longer.
Always Read The Herbicide Label.
Don’t
skip reading the label. Always read the safety instructions of the herbicide.
Although most pesticides have, more or less, the same steps, it is still wise
to refer to the instruction just in case the chemical you are using is more
potent.
Don’t Unclog Herbicide Spray Using Your Mouth.
Some
people have been reported to suffer vomiting and feeling sick after using
herbicide. The main reasons for this are either inhaling much of the chemicals
or accidentally tasting it.
