One of the best ways to spruce up your garden is to add a garden arch. Now, buying a garden arch can be expensive – especially the high-quality arches.
So, what can you if you can’t afford to buy an arch but still want to grace your garden with one?
The other way is to simply make an arch. And the best part is that you don’t need expensive materials to create it. You can create a beautiful arch out of strong PVC pipe. All you need are the right materials for the job and the knowledge on how to make a garden arch with PVC pipe.
Why Use PVC Pipe?
You might be wondering why we chose PVC as our preferred material for making the arch. Why can’t we use other materials like wood or metal?
Well, you can use other materials if you want to, but we chose PVC because PVC is sturdy, slightly flexible, and compact all at the same time.
We don’t really like the bulkiness of wood nor do we like the rigidness of metal. That’s why PVC pipes are the best option that we can get.
How To Make A Garden Arch With PVC Pipe
Now that we’ve explained why we recommend PVC pipes as our choice of material for arch creation, we can move on to the steps on how to make a pvc pipe archway.
You can check them out below:
1. Mark Your Location
The first thing you’ll want to do is determine the location of your arch and mark it. Once you find the ideal location, immediately dig a hole with a trowel so that you’ll remember where to put the arch.
We recommend that you make the holes at least 2 inches deep and space the two holes at least 6 feet apart. You may also widen the space between the two holes if you want the arch bigger.
2. Place The First Pipe In The Hole
The next thing you’ll want to do is to place the first pair of pipes in the holes. Usually, a 6-inch pipe will be used for the first set. Push it in the hole at least 2 inches deep. If you want it to be more embedded, you can try to push it 3 inches deep to leave 3 inches above the ground.
3. Connect Other Pipes
PVC pipes usually come with pipe connectors or pipe fittings. Use coupling pipe fittings to connect a number of pipes together until you get the ideal height that you want.
4. Top Off The Archway
Once you get the ideal height you want, place an elbow or a tee pipe fitting on the ends of each standing pipe. From there, you can place a pipe horizontally perpendicular to the two standing pipes. You can either bend it and connect them to elbow fittings to resemble a wedding arch. You can also use a tee fitting to create a letter H type arch.
5. Create Other Arches
With the first arch done, you can add more arches behind the first one to give you some sort of pathway into the garden. Just repeat steps 1 to 4 with each new arch.
Now that you know how to make an archway with a pvc pipe, the last step is to design the arch. You can paint it, add some flowers, or do whatever you want with it. The design is really up to your own creativity and preference.
Most people think that creating an archway for their garden is a hard job to do. However, it can be simple if you know how.
